Gambling giant Betfred has rebranded Warrington firm Sharp Gaming as its technology department after successfully migrating its online customers onto a single proprietary platform.
Betfred bought Sharp Gaming in 2021 and its CEO Andrew Daniels will now become Betfred’s chief information officer, with responsibility for the Betfred Group’s IT and technology infrastructure.
Mr Daniels, who had previously founded web development company Degree 53, set up Sharp Gaming after receiving a £25m investment from the owner of Betfred, Fred Done. He hoped it would provide a “full suite” of operational services for sports betting and gaming businesses worldwide.

Working for Betfred, the company has set up a system which aims to powerr player account management software, sportsbook, gaming aggregation, remote gaming server, applications and an array of websites. Betfre said the platform “will be pivotal in pioneering unique betting and gaming products, and this move is undoubtedly another big breakthrough for the Betfred Group’s global aspirations.”
He said: “It’s been seven years in the making and has been one of the biggest challenges of my professional career, but the hard work has been worth it in the end. I’d like to thank my fantastic team for making this migration possible and I’m very excited to begin my role as the company’s new CIO.”
Betfred’s CEO Joanne Whittaker reinforced the significance of Sharp Gaming officially joining the Betfred family. She said: “This is the latest transformative milestone in Betfred’s near 60-year history and it marks a new beginning for our operations as a business. I would like to thank Andy and the Sharp Gaming team for their amazing efforts for bringing this unique and exciting migration to fruition.”
