A Hull business that specialises in product lifecycle management has secured £530,000 investment to help market a new software product.

Bombiix, which was launched by entrepreneur Lucy Blackley in 2018, has earned the backing of Finance Yorkshire for its product lifecycle management software, designed to help other businesses with developing and readying products for market. Ms Blackley previously worked for fashion firm Zalando and developed the idea having become frustrated with the systems she was using.

The company is based at the ergo business centre in Hessle and specialises in the supply of consumer goods - providing support from concept to market. Growth opportunities are said to be driven by new sustainability regulations that mean all products sold in the EU must have Digital Product Passports.

Ms Blackley said: “Our solution takes brands and SMEs from concept and product development through to production and beyond. It groups everything in one place and creates a single source of truth for the users’ product workflows and data, demonstrating transparency and sustainability. We’ve added to our team in Yorkshire - we like to hire from within the region where there is so much talent.”

She added: “We were ready to grow when we approached Finance Yorkshire – the investment will help us capture more customers and strengthen our marketing campaign.”

Bombiix works with brands such as Smiffys, Rubies and Joanie Clothing. Last year it appointed former Cath Kidston global supply chain and IT director, Neil Weaver, as CEO. Ms Blackley now hopes the firm can grow into other sectors, including food and drink and will expand its team of five following the investment.

Alex McWhirter, Finance Yorkshire CEO, said: "Lucy’s knowledge and experience of PLMs has enabled her to build a solution which is fully focussed on the product. We are pleased to support her and the team at Bombiix to reach a wider client base in its established sectors as well as venturing into new markets."
