Vodafone's chief financial officer, Luka Mucic, is set to depart the FTSE 100 company just over 18 months after assuming the role.

Mucic, who joined the telecoms board in September 2023, has announced plans to leave "no later than" spring 2026, marking him as the shortest-serving CFO in the company's history, as reported by .

The outgoing CFO, who received a salary of £760,000, is leaving to take up the position of CEO at Vonovia, a German property firm listed on the DAX 40 index.

Following the announcement, Vodafone shares experienced a two per cent drop in early trading.

Vodafone's shortest-serving CFO

Historically, Vodafone has seen long tenures from its finance chiefs.

Ken Hydon held the CFO position for two decades from 1985 to 2005, a period during which the company evolved from a small telecoms business into one of the world's largest.

Hydon was succeeded by Andy Halford, who served in the role for nine years.

Vodafone's current CEO, Magherita Della Valle, spent nearly five years as CFO, before which she was deputy CFO under Nick Read.

Della Valle expressed her gratitude to Mucic for his dedication to Vodafone during the initial stage of their transformation, stating: "During his time with us he has played a key part in resetting our capital allocation priorities and enhancing our focus on operational excellence."

Mucic commented: "Whilst I look forward to the next step in my career back in my native Germany, it has been rewarding to help shape the transformation and I have the utmost confidence of Vodafone's future success."

Starting his career at German software giant SAP in 1996, Mucic climbed the ranks within its global finance and administration division, ultimately serving as group CFO before his move to Vodafone in 2023.
