A Cheshire games studio has secured an investment of more than £400,000 through Creative Ƶ to support its next phase of product development and growth.
Nomad Games, based in Lymm, specialised in adapting classic board games into digital experiences. It has worked with games including Talisman, Catan, the Fighting Fantasy games by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson, plus a range of titles by the Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG).
Nomad has now secured a debt and equity investment through Creative Ƶ’s investment fund, Creative Growth Finance. It will use the funding to support the rollout of Talisman Digital Edition 5, including new expansions alongside global games and toy brand Hasbro. Nomad also plans to work on new licensed IPs to grow its portfolio and its future revenue potential.
Salford-based Creative Ƶ, formerly known as Creative England, first partnered with Nomad Games in 2013, when it provided a £50,000 loan to help the company launch Talisman on STEAM, iOS and Android.
Don Whiteford, founder & CEO at Nomad Games, said: “Through its history, Creative Ƶ has been a steady and reliable backer for Nomad Games Limited, which has now reached a pivotal growth point. It makes sense for Creative Ƶ to be on board for the long ride, hence this exceptional equity investment step.
“The videogames business is evolving in new ways and collaboration that brings together a wide range of expertise is essential for navigating the new industry landscape. With Creative Ƶ behind us, we will reinforce and grow our position to build new levels of value for all involved."
Hannah Upton, investment manager at Creative Ƶ, said: “We are proud to deepen our relationship with Nomad Games with this latest investment. Having supported the company through its earlier stages, we've seen first-hand the strength of their team, the quality of their games, and their ability to carve out a strong position in the digital tabletop gaming space - an area of the industry that continues to see growth and innovation.
“This investment reflects our continued confidence in their vision and growth and the expanding opportunities within the gaming sector. We’re excited to be part of their next chapter.”
Jackie Boyd, portfolio manager at Creative Ƶ, said: “Nomad Games’ journey from launching Talisman over a decade ago to now delivering its fifth digital edition shows just how well they’ve balanced their creative vision with long-term strategy. Securing a working relationship with a company like Hasbro is further testament to their ambition and credibility. It’s been a pleasure for Creative Ƶ to support them from the beginning and to now help power this next chapter.”
