Staff at radio frequency and microwave technology specialist Filtronic are celebrating a €7m contract win.

The County Durham firm says it has secured a deal with an unnamed, leading European aerospace manufacturer to supply radio frequency assemblies for use in a major low earth orbit satellite constellation programme. Filtronic told investors on the London Stock Exchange that the contract is a significant commitment that it will deliver over the next three years.

The complex assemblies are said to be engineered to withstand harsh conditions in space and deliver high reliability across different communications uses. Bosses said the contract demonstrates Filtronic's technical expertise and position at the forefront of radio frequency and mmWave technology - and further secures its relationship with a relatively new customer.

Nat Edington, chief executive officer, said: "This contract highlights our increasing diversification across customers within the space markets and reflects the trust placed in Filtronic's capability to deliver at scale for the most demanding space applications. As demand for satellite connectivity continues to grow, this is another milestone in Filtronic's mission to support the growing satellite market for non-terrestrial networks, mobile satellite services, and direct-to-device connectivity."

This latest deal follows the mammoth £47.3m agreement secured with SpaceX earlier this year - Filtronic's largest single contract to date. The landmark work is set to be delivered in 2027 and involves the company's next generation, proprietary gallium nitride E-band product.

It will see Filtronic's innovations continue to benefit the Starlink constellation of low earth orbit satellites which deliver internet to hard to reach places and is delivered by the rocket company's subsidiary. That deal also brought the Sedgefield company closer to its high profile, US-based partner by extending an agreement which allows SpaceX to buy shares.

In an update to the market ahead of its annual general meeting, in the last week, Filtronic said: "The start of FY2026 has seen continued progress, as the company increases the scalability of the business and capitalises on its long-term growth opportunities. Filtronic has further strengthened its RF and system engineering teams, positioning the business to execute on the increased pipeline of technology and products that match the developing market opportunities that will drive growth over the next number of years.

"Overall, the group's healthy sales pipeline, increased customer engagement with both new and existing clients across key markets and robust order book leave Filtronic in a good position to meet market expectations for the full year, despite headwinds from weakness of the US dollar against sterling."
