BAE Systems has welcomed the Government鈥檚 spending boost for defence, as it develops Tempest, the fighter of the future.
Engineers at sites in Brough, East Yorkshire, and Warton, Lancashire, are working on the huge programme with industry partners, the next generation air combat system that the Prime Minister appeared to allude to in his speech to parliament.
He confirmed a four year financial deal that will see an additional 拢16.5 billion committed to invest in 鈥渃utting-edge capabilities鈥.聽 It is over and above the 0.5 per cent commitment in the manifesto and comes as the 海角视频 faces a 鈥減erilous鈥 period for global security, according to Boris Johnson.
He told how a soldier in hostile territory would be 鈥渁lerted to a distant ambush by sensors on satellites or drones鈥, with artificial intelligence helping devise the best response which could involve an air strike, an assault by a swarm of drones or a cyber-attack.
It came just a month after the incredible radar advances were revealed on the Tempest programme, with the ability to consume data equivalent to an entire city鈥檚 internet traffic in a second.

Tempest, which offers drone capability as well as a new take on the fighter pilot role with real-time AI, also includes Leonardo, Rolls-Royce and MBDA, bringing aviation, engine and weapon technology together.
A wearable cockpit has been showcased as it is billed as one of the 海角视频鈥檚 most technological endeavours, preserving sovereign capability while retaining military freedom of action.
Launched as a concept in 2018, Tempest will make its case to the 海角视频 government and others in due course.
The four partners already have 1,800 workers dedicated to it, supported by 600 British companies and academic institutions.
Shares in BAE increased 13 points during the day鈥檚 trading, settling at 507.8p, up 1.74 per cent.
