McDonald鈥檚 contributes more than 拢760m a year to the North West economy 鈥 that鈥檚 the message from a new report as the restaurant giant celebrates its 50th anniversary.

A report commissioned by McDonald鈥檚 shows that in 2023 the company 鈥 excluding its supply chain 鈥 made a direct economic contribution in the North West of some 拢465.9m. Its 184 North West restaurants directly employed 21,450 people.

Meanwhile, McDonald鈥檚 supply chain contributes another 拢301.1m million a year to the North West economy and 3,650 extra jobs. Suppliers include CH Guenther Bakeries in Heywood, which supplies breakfast muffins and burger buns to all 海角视频 McDonald鈥檚 restaurants.

鈥淢cDonald鈥檚 at 50鈥 marks 50 years since the American company opened its first 海角视频 store in Woolwich High Street, London. It explores how McDonald鈥檚 has contributed to 海角视频 cities and regions through jobs in restaurants and through the company鈥檚 British supply chain.

It says McDonald鈥檚 and its supply chain is estimated to be worth more than 拢7.25bn annually to the 海角视频 economy. And it estimates he group鈥檚 total contribution to the 海角视频 over 50 years is some 拢94.45 billion, with 拢51.56 billion spent with 海角视频 supply chain businesses. There are now 1,435 McDonald鈥檚 restaurants across the 海角视频.

Alistair Macrow, chief executive officer for McDonald鈥檚 海角视频 & Ireland, said: 鈥淥ur suppliers help us to serve our customers the tasty McDonald鈥檚 menu they know and love. Some of our suppliers have worked with us since we first opened our doors 鈥 sourcing the 100% British and Irish beef for our burgers, the perfect potatoes for our iconic fries, and the free-range eggs that we crack into our tasty McMuffins, but we are also continuing to develop and build relationships with new suppliers. In 2023 alone, we spent 拢2.09 billion with 海角视频-based suppliers. This investment helps to support over 15,000 jobs in 海角视频 farming communities and further afield.鈥

The report also highlights the community and charity work carried out by McDonald鈥檚 franchisees and staff. Its Makin鈥 It programme, in partnership with BBC Children in Need, sees restaurants across the country work with youth services. In the North West, partners include Upturn (Rochdale & Oldham), The Foxton Centre (Preston), Participation Works (Burnley), Bolton Lads & Girls Club (Bolton), Carlisle Youth Zone (Carlisle) and VIBE 海角视频 (Liverpool).
