The combination of an ageing population and an ageing workforce is currently placing a huge demand on the health and social care sector.

The need to attract young talent and retain skilled, experienced team members continues to pose a key challenge for many public and private sector organisations, demanding an increase in the talent pipeline.

The University of Salford鈥檚 accredited apprenticeship programmes in Nursing, Allied and Public Health are designed to meet these sector-wide challenges head on, as well as the needs of your organisation.

Apprentices can upskill at every stage, from new starters and junior team members to experienced health and social care professionals looking to take the next step.

Expert teaching and cutting-edge facilities

The University of Salford offers state-of-the-art simulation facilities that enable apprentices to acquire in-depth skills and understanding of their chosen occupation, whilst using the latest technologies

Apprenticeships are a cost-effective training solution that not only upskills employees to improve patient-centred care, but also helps organisations to attract new talent and retain skilled team members.

By choosing apprenticeships, healthcare providers across the North West are providing exceptional levels of care to service users, strengthening their teams and creating paths for career progression that, due to the Apprenticeship Levy, could be fully or 95% funded by the government.

According to government statistics, 80% of employers have seen a significant increase in employee retention due to apprenticeships, and 92% believe apprenticeships lead to a more motivated and satisfied workforce.

Karen Idle, Care Home Group Service Director, said: 鈥淲e decided to join the scheme to develop the staff who were looking for a nursing career but couldn鈥檛 go to university full time. Sarah [Nursing Associate apprentice] has developed with other health professionals and grown in her confidence. It鈥檚 been amazing. I wouldn鈥檛 look back.鈥

Courses in Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Podiatry, Public Health and many more were designed in collaboration with organisations in both the public and private sector, incorporating the latest research to ensure teaching is at the forefront of practice and equipping learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the needs of service users.

Apprentices engage in hands-on learning that can be brought straight back into the workplace

Apprentices have the opportunity to access state-of-the-art facilities that make the University of Salford a world-class environment for learning and research, including cutting-edge Simulation Suites, the Centre for Medical Imaging, Podiatry clinic and Digital Immersive Video Environment.

Paul Orme, Head of Physiotherapy at the Neuromuscular Centre, said: 鈥淭he apprenticeship gives me a really good opportunity to develop the team. It鈥檚 worthwhile because at the end of four years I'll have very well qualified Physiotherapists with a massive amount of knowledge and experience. Now, our apprentices are a massive part of our team.鈥
