A high-performance trail running and outdoor footwear brand is planning to open a store at the new Cotswolds Designer Outlet.

The branch, slated to open on July 16, will will be the second bricks-and-mortar shop for outdoor clothing and shoe firm Merrell.

The company has secured 121 sq metres of space at the outlet, joining other brands including North Face, Saltrock, Craghoppers and Mountain Warehouse.

The new branch, located near Tewkesbury, will offer a range of products, including apparel and accessories and a full complement of footwear options from the trail running, hiking, casual and barefoot ranges.

Jonathan Quint, senior product and marketing director EMEA at Merrell, said: “We are incredibly proud to open our second store in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ - and in such a key location.

"The location was specifically chosen for its unparalleled access to the Cotswolds, Malvern Hills and South Wales - and is a signal of Merrell’s continued investment in the outdoor retail market, offering customers a premium shopping experience.

"Our staff are experts in footwear and the outdoors and will be able to offer customers expert knowledge on picking the right shoe for the right activity."

Merrell was established in 1981 when two executives from the Rossignol ski company - Clark Matis and John Schweizer - decided to launch a new maker of hiking boots. The company has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of US shoe giant Wolverine World Wide since 1997.

As part of the opening, Merrell is partnering with the Ordnance Survey to create a footwear wall which will show key hiking routes in the area. The goal is to inspire walkers and boost engagement from the local community to get out and explore the outdoors more this summer, according to the company.

Cotswolds Designer Outlet, near the M5, is opening next month.

The highly anticipated shopping destination will include a flagship Dobbies garden centre with a Waitrose food hall and soft play, and a petrol station.

The scheme is being developed by Cheltenham-headquartered Robert Hitchins and Cheshire-based retail destination specialist Multi-Realm, and is being built in two phases with a combined total of 186,000 sq ft and up to 90 stores.

Earlier in June, speciality coffee roaster 200 Degrees confirmed it had also committed to space at the retail destination.
