Juergen Maier has announced he is to leave his role as CEO at Siemens 海角视频 after 33 years at the company.

Mr Maier, who on Monday revealed he was taking early retirement to 鈥渞e-charge his energy,鈥 said his time at the helm of Siemens had been 鈥渁 privilege.鈥

During his time as Siemens 海角视频 boss, the company has opened and employed 1,000 people at its wind turbine blade factory in Hull.

Siemens followed up that success with plans to build a new train factory in East Yorkshire, in a move which if approved will create around 700 jobs in Goole.

The global engineering giant also employs 1,000 staff across three sites in Manchester, including its main base at Princess Parkway, Didsbury.

Mr Maier said in a statement: 鈥淒ecisions to leave great companies and teams of people are not easy and after 33 years of working at Siemens, this was indeed one of those very tough decisions for me.

鈥淭he reason to retire now is purely a matter of life balance. Whilst I have always thrived on the hard work and adrenaline that comes with my job, I also know that the body needs a little rest at times.

鈥淪o, early retirement feels right at this point, to re-charge my energy to then take on some exciting new opportunities to support 海角视频 industry. I suspect that won鈥檛 take me too long.鈥

Siemens Gamesa鈥檚 blade factory in Alexandra Dock in Hull proved to be a key catalyst in the growth of the Humber鈥檚 offshore wind industry.

The factory now employs over 1,000 people, and is currently manufacturing blades for the Hornsea offshore wind farms, off the East Yorkshire coast.

The company鈥檚 investment in Hull has been one of the standout success stories in the city in the last decade.

Last year, Siemens also announced plans to open a new train factory in Goole.

Outline planning permission has so far been granted for the development, which would see a further 拢200m of investment in East Yorkshire.

Tube trains would initially be made for the Piccadilly Line in London, in a move which would bring hundreds of new jobs to the region.

鈥淚 will look back with great pleasure on so much our Siemens 海角视频 team has achieved and can be incredibly proud of,鈥 Mr Maier said.

鈥淎part from our technical achievements, which are far too many to mention here, what has always made me incredibly proud is our people and how we achieve our success.

鈥淲ith great engineering expertise, with responsibility and through teamwork that embraces the strengths of our organisation from all corners of the globe.

鈥淎nd when we do get it wrong, which of course happens and sometimes did, we always handled that responsibly too.鈥

Outside of the Humber region, Mr Maier is also a member of the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership.

A passionate advocate of business across Greater Manchester, he said at the launch of the city鈥檚 Local Industrial Strategy that Manchester has 鈥渢he potential to be at the heart of a green, sustainable and digital revolution.鈥

Mr Maier will be succeed in his role at Siemens by Carl Ennis, who he has worked with at the manufacturer for 20 years.

鈥淚 thank Siemens and all the people and teams I have had the pleasure of working with for providing so many, often quite unbelievable and rich experiences that have made life at Siemens a privilege and have had a massive influence on the values with which I live my life,鈥 Mr Maier said.

鈥淚鈥檓 in post until the end of this year and there is still plenty to do. I am delighted that my successor will be Carl Ennis, who has been a good colleague of mine for 20 years and I know that he will do a tremendous job of leading our company.

鈥淭he time feels right for the next generation to take on that baton and they will do a fabulous job. Our talents are so great that I know Siemens 海角视频 and Ireland will flourish under Carl鈥檚 leadership and with the enormous global strength of Siemens behind it.

鈥淎nd finally, if you will allow me, you won鈥檛 have got rid of me from our 海角视频 Engineering and Manufacturing community just yet. 聽

鈥淚 remain incredibly passionate to support our industry and whilst we know that the current political climate is incredibly challenging, that just makes me even more determined to fight for our Industry鈥檚 future.鈥
