A company which specialises in providing holidays for people with disabilities has raised £6.5 million in new funding.

Birmingham-based Limitless Travel will use the capital to expand its portfolio of destinations and invest in its technology.

The fresh round of funding has been led by US venture capital firm Beringea alongside Social Impact Enterprises, Adjuvo, Active Partners, Miroma Ventures and existing investors including Nigel Wray.

It comes as the Digbeth-based company celebrates its tenth anniversary.

Limitless Travel was founded in 2015 by Angus Drummond who was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at the age of 22.

It has since delivered thousands of holidays and cruises to disabled travellers and now has more than 80 members of staff while revenue has risen by 350 per cent over the past three years.

Mr Drummond said: "This investment is not only a game-changer for our business but also for disability travel as a whole.

"It will allow us to further enhance the quality and range of our holidays, expand into new products and destinations and accelerate our international growth.

"Accessible travel should never be an afterthought, it's one of the largest and fastest-growing sectors in the industry. Disabled travellers and their families and companions deserve nothing but the best.

"With the support of our investors, we're now in the strongest position yet to lead the charge and show the world the true power of disability travel."

He said that around 20 per cent of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ population lived with a disability and more than 11 million people had mobility challenges which could make traditional travel options difficult or even inaccessible.

He added that the global accessible tourism market was valued at around £77 billion.

"Most travel providers still fail to cater for this community, leaving the joy of travel out of reach for millions of disabled people," he said.

"After being excluded for so long, disabled travellers deserve nothing other than the very best."

Kiu Kim, investment director at Beringea, added: "Angus and the team have built an exceptional business.

"Not only is Limitless Travel growing rapidly but it is also having a huge impact on the lives of its customers - opening up new experiences and destinations for people who previously struggled to access these trips of a lifetime.

"Beringea is hugely excited to see where this business heads and the impact that we can drive together."
