More than 1,000 new jobs could be created over the next three years in the West Midlands' tech sector.

A quintet of companies have announced plans today to hire for roles in fields such as data compliance, telecoms and electric vehicle charging.

Irish IT services provider Version 1 is looking to scale up its operations in the region, creating around 500 jobs in Birmingham.

The company's expansion programme will include the opening of a new technology hub in the city centre next year, giving it access to the local employment market and better proximity to its customer base.

It is also planning to start two new academies in Birmingham next spring, adding to its current office in Redditch.

Wireless communication specialist Novocomms said it wanted to create 300 new jobs in Birmingham over the next three years through the launch of a new smart city services provider.

The company, which was born out of the University of Birmingham, will provide clients with services covering a range of 'smart' sectors including cities, agriculture, ports, healthcare and transportation.
