A communications firm which is planning to cut hundreds of jobs has been urged to give an update on the future of its Salford headquarters.

Last week it was revealed that Platform X Communications (PXC), part of the TalkTalk Group, had put 350 roles at risk in a redundancy consultation, following a 'major restructuring' of the business.

PXC is the wholesale arm of the group, providing services and broadband to other telecoms providers. It has people based in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and North Macedonia, and the jobs at risk are spread through those locations.

The plans will see it create around 70 new jobs as part of the change, with a net loss of 280 positions.

Its headquarters is based at Soapworks in Salford Quays, part of the city with a cluster of businesses by the River Irwell, just a short distance from MediaCity.

The firm said it is committed to its Soapworks base, but questions have been raised about its future presence in the city.

Salford MP Rebecca Long-Bailey said: "While I welcome confirmation that the Salford Quays headquarters will remain open, any potential loss of jobs on this scale is deeply concerning.

"I will be seeking urgent clarification from the company on how many roles in Salford are affected, what support is being offered to staff, and what their long-term plans are for the site.
