NEL Energy Park, from Engie, is proposed for land straddling the A180 close to the Stallingborough Interchange, and could potentially power the business park being brought forward as part of the South Humber Industrial Investment Programme.

A £30 million investment, it would be the second º£½ÇÊÓƵ solar installation from the energy and services giant, with the renewables division operating separately to the local authority’s development partnership and the Grimsby headquartered Engie Fabricom engineering business.

Unveiling it at a public consultation, Engie’s senior business development manager for renewables, Matthew Hayes, said: “We are looking at a phased development, with 29.9MW solar and 20MW for battery storage.  We have been looking at this site for a couple of years, and there are opportunities to do more.

“There is the economic development site, potential for private wire supply to the business park , and there are the ports, big industry nearby, and all have got the same agenda – we have got to decarbonise.

“We are well versed in what the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership is trying to do.”

The panels would stand on the agricultural land at a height of 2.2m, with animal grazing a possibility.

Subject to a successful consultation, held at Bert Boyden Community Centre, a formal planning application to North East Lincolnshire Council is anticipated just before Christmas or early in the new year.
