A deli in Bristol that was named Britain's 'best small shop' last year has reopened to the public after securing a 拢50,000 coronavirus Bounce Back Loan (BBL).

Bristol-based delicatessen and catering business Papadeli, which was awarded the accolade by the Independent Retailers Confederation, was forced to close when the 海角视频 went into lockdown in March and furloughed 14 employees.

The company said the money, from Barclays, is being used to 鈥渟upport staff鈥, cover day-to-day costs and invest in stock.

It has also allowed Papdeli to keep the catering arm of the business 鈥渁live鈥 while the company waits for events to be re-established, owner Simon MacDonnell said.

鈥淲e were enjoying a successful start to the year, however, the lockdown meant the shop fully closed and all catering and cookery classes stopped," he said.

鈥淭he BBL means we could continue to support our hard-working staff as well as keeping the catering part of the business alive while we wait for events to be re-established.

鈥淚鈥檓 delighted that we鈥檝e been able to re-open this week and look forward to serving our customers once again.鈥

Joy Simmonds, Barclays business manager in Bristol, added: 鈥淎s a valued business in the community, I was keen to step in and help when the firm ran into difficulty caused by the pandemic.

鈥淚鈥檓 so pleased that the Bounce Back Loan will provide the financial cushion and reassurance they need to be able to get through these tough times, and I look forward to continue helping them now and in the future.鈥

Papadeli, which was established in 2002 by husband and wife team Simon and Catrin MacDonnell, has opened in line with government social distancing guidelines.

The duo started by selling takeaway food and produce from local produce and European producers.

The business now runs a deli and cheesemonger as well as a deli cafe and a cookery school. The company鈥檚 catering division provides services for events, working lunches, weddings and buffets.
