The Spanish businessman behind a new takeover bid for Derby County FC has promised fans a return to the good times.
Erik Alonso, who owns management company WBD Sports, is in line to take control of the Championship club on behalf of his company No Limits Sports Ltd.
The deal to buy the side, which is managed by England legend Wayne Rooney, will need approval from the EFL.
The Rams are currently trying to secure their Championship status with relegation still a possibility. They are 18th in the table ahead of Saturday鈥檚 game against Norwich City.
It was announced on Wednesday that Mr Alonso and current Rams owner Mel Morris had come to an agreement to transfer ownership.
It comes just weeks after an earlier takeover 鈥 by the cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour 鈥 fell through.
Mr Alonso was linked with a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday in the New Year but nothing came of that.
The businessman took to social media on Wednesday night to promise that 鈥榯he good times will return鈥 to Derby fans.
An earlier statement said he had reached the agreement with Mr Morris to take charge of the club.
He said: 鈥淲e are privileged to take ownership of one of the founding members of the Football League and to build a fresh future for the fans, staff and players of Derby County.
鈥淚t has undoubtedly been a difficult period both on and off the pitch for the club over the last two seasons and we recognise that all of the staff have been dedicated and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the club鈥檚 first team and academy football operations were fulfilled.
鈥淲e are looking forward to working with Wayne Rooney and his team, and will do everything possible to support the club鈥檚 vision and ambition.
鈥淲e would like to thank Mel Morris and his team for their support in helping to facilitate a quick and smooth transaction.鈥
