PureGym, the Leeds-based gym operator, is set to make its mark in the US following a successful 2024. The company saw a 10% increase in revenue, reaching £605m as membership numbers skyrocketed.
By the end of 2024, PureGym boasted 2.25 million customers, an impressive increase of 400,000 from the previous year, marking a 21% jump, as reported by .
The total number of gyms under the group's umbrella also rose by 13%, totalling 680.
Earnings for the firm grew by 10% from 2023, hitting a record £256m. The acquisition of Blink Fitness assets in New York for $121m (£90m) marked PureGym's entry into the US market, adding 56 gyms to its portfolio.
Throughout the year, the firm launched 105 new gyms, including those acquired and three new franchise gyms in the Middle East. Clive Chesser, PureGym's CEO, highlighted the company's ability to adapt strategies to meet individual market needs.
Chesser stated: "Market conditions for the consumer continue to be challenging in many of our markets. Our proposition – to provide a boutique fitness experience at a value gym price – is appealing in these market conditions and demonstrates why the value gym sector continues to thrive."

Chesser eying further expansion
Looking ahead, Chesser has plans for further expansion. The CEO has his sights set on opening 300 new venues across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ and expanding further into Europe.
He added: "The USA, where we now have critical mass, represents a tremendous opportunity for PureGym."
He concluded by saying, "The integration is well underway, following which our focus will turn to growth, both through opening our own sites or with franchise partners."
Chesser, who formerly helmed Punch Pubs & Co, took the reins at PureGym in November 2024. Upon his appointment, Chesser remarked: "[Puregym] is truly a great British success story" and committed to steering the company towards further triumphs "both domestically and internationally".
He succeeded Humphrey Cobbold, who had been at the helm since January 2015 and has now taken on the role of the company's chair.
