Europe’s largest outdoor accommodation provider Pitchup.com has revealed a huge increase in camping and caravanning tourism to Wales last year.

In 2019, Wales’ caravanning and camping sites saw a 17% increase in bookings and a 22% increase in total sales revenue, in comparison to 2018.

Anglesey was the fastest growing camping and caravanning destination in Wales - with bookings up by over 500% year on year.

Pembrokeshire had the highest number of bookings.

Commenting on the increase, Dan Yates, founder of Pitchup.com, said: “2019 was an unsettled year, with uncertainty surrounding Brexit leading to decreased consumer spending.

"However, Brits were still looking for a quality holiday - just one closer to home and at a good price - so it comes as little surprise that one of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s favourite outdoor holiday destinations, Wales, saw a real boost of interest in its camping and caravanning sites.”

Celtic Camping, in Pembrokeshire, topped Wales’ 2019 bestseller list.

With almost 955 bookings made in 2019, equating to a 128% increase on the previous year.
