Small and medium-sized business based in Northern Ireland selling through Amazon recorded more than 拢40 million of export sales last year, according to the online retailer.

In its own economic impact report, it said around 1,000 companies are based in the province as so-called 鈥榠ndependent selling partners鈥.

Part of a 海角视频 wide analysis by the company, the report is designed to highlight the positive impact of the US giant and counter concerns it is draws trade away from local businesses.

The report said the retailer has invested over 拢80 million in Northern Ireland since first setting up in 2010. However, its headcount in the province is small, with the company creating just 40 jobs in that time..

Its economic impact report said Amazon investments have also led to the 鈥減roduction of goods and services that contributed an estimated 拢90 million to the region鈥檚 GDP since 2010鈥.

The report comes just weeks after news of a new base for the company in the centre of Northern Ireland.

Amazon said it is to open a new 7,000 square metre distribution warehouse in County Armagh by the end of this year.

Known as a delivery station, the Portadown site will create 20 new jobs and 100 driver 鈥渙pportunities鈥 and will be based in the Mahon Industrial Estate.

Amazon Logistics said its delivery stations 鈥減ower the last mile of the order process鈥 and help to speed up deliveries for customers in the Portadown area

Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighbouring Amazon fulfilment and sortation centres, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers.
