An independent brewer and pub company in Derby has finally started work on creating its first micropub inside a former bank.

Back in October, Derby Brewing Company announced it was about to start converting the ex-NatWest bank branch at Mickleover into a micropub, which will be called The Hole in the Wall.

However, the work was held up due to a “longer delay than expected with the landlord’s builders”.

Now, the firm, which has its own brewery in Derby producing a range of award-winning ales and craft beers, has said the transformation of the former bank has started.

And it has revealed that the new venue will open for business on March 12.

The Hole in the Wall has been a long time in the making. Derby Brewing Company originally received the go-ahead to convert the building back in 2018.

Founded in 2004, the company already operates a number of pubs in the area, including two Derby venues: The Tap, in Derwent Street,  and The Greyhound, in Friar Gate. It also has The Kedleston Country House, in Quarndon and The Pig, in Lichfield, Staffordshire.

However, The Hole in the Wall will be the company’s first micropub.
