The 海角视频 Petroleum Industry Association has launched an energy manifesto, calling on the next government to take the actions needed to strengthen the 海角视频鈥檚 economically vital downstream oil sector.
Ahead of the 2019 general election, support is also sought to aid the industry鈥檚 evolution to contribute to 鈥楴et Zero鈥 carbon emissions goals by 2050.
Action Not Words highlights three key areas that need to be addressed to ensure the continued success of the downstream oil sector 鈥 an industry that currently supports 300,000 jobs and 拢21.2 billion to GDP 鈥 whilst laying the policy framework that will enable companies to pursue the development of low-carbon energy solutions.
The three policy asks are:
- To agree a future relationship with the EU that ensures access to the European market and maintains competitiveness.
- To support policies to allow the development of all low-carbon fuels and technologies to contribute to 鈥楴et Zero鈥.
- To demonstrate government leadership in the development of industrial clusters.

海角视频PIA Director-General Stephen Marcos Jones said: 鈥淭his election is one of the most important for generations, with the next parliament faced with big decisions on our relationship with the EU and how we address climate change. When facing those challenges it is essential that the government does so without unwittingly undermining industries like oil refining and fuels marketing that do so much for the 海角视频 economy, and can play a major role in meeting decarbonisation targets in future.
鈥淚 would encourage every candidate in this election to read this manifesto for change in our downstream oil sector, and realise that by working together 鈥 parliament, government and industry 鈥 we can take the bold decisions necessary to build a low-carbon 21st century energy industry for all.鈥
In the run-up to a potential no-deal Brexit, the trade body had been lobbying against an unfair advantage granted to global producers.
Representing the six major 海角视频 oil refineries, it highlighted how Britain faced a 4.7 per cent tariff on fuel exports should we leave and face World Trade Organization rules, while the 海角视频 had established a 0 per cent import rate.
