Health and wellness group Protein Works has opened its new headquarters as it celebrates selling its 400 millionth shake and plans to hit £100m in revenues.

The group’s new 100,000 sq ft PW Campus, in Speke, will allow the business to bring operations from multiple sites in nearby Runcorn under one roof “to support the next chapter of innovation and expansion” at Protein Works as it aims for sales growth.

The nutrition-focused group was founded in 2012 and has enjoyed a decade of growth, with a record-breaking 2024 that saw a 40% increase in turnover and record profits. Last month, the company marked the sale of its 400 millionth shake.

Protein Works says its new campus shows its commitment to Liverpool city region, where it also aims to grow headcount in areas including marketing, technology, and data. The company has also announced that Joseph Hook, who joined Protein Works last year, has been promoted to chief operating officer.

The company said: “With advanced manufacturing capabilities, efficiency-driving technology, and dedicated space for future growth, the facility will enable the business to scale past £100m in revenue with zero limitations on how fast that can be achieved.”

Laura Keir, CEO at Protein Works, said: “This is more than just a new building. It’s a symbol of how far we’ve come, and where we’re going next.

“At a time when many others in our industry have been facing challenges, we’re proud to be able to create best-in-class jobs and contribute to the economic growth of the North West. With everything under one roof, we can operate smarter, move faster, and innovate more boldly than ever before.

“As a driven business, we're deeply committed to expanding our capabilities in AI and technology to enhance decision-making and improve service for our customers. I believe our new campus and city location will be a catalyst in bringing that vision to life.

Nicola McQuaid, Partner at YFM Equity Partners, which is backing Protein Works, added: “Reaching this milestone reflects just how far Protein Works has come as a brand that’s rapidly gaining ground in its industry. Over the past five years, the team has consistently delivered, with revenues surpassing £50 million and EBITDA doubling year-on-year.

“That exceptional performance has enabled the company to self-fund this major move, cementing its position in the fast-growing health and wellness market and setting the stage for future success.”
