Former Wylfa Newydd chief joins adventure brand Zip World

Greg Evans has been appointed to the management team at the fast expanding North Wales firm

A former nuclear chief has joined Zip World as the adventure brand pushes on with expanding its operations.

Former executive director of operations of Horizon Nuclear Power, Greg Evans, has been appointed as new operations director to strengthen the management team and take the business to the next level.

Mr Evans brings more than 39 years’ experience in the nuclear industry at the highest level to his new role at the fast-growing Welsh adventure tourism business.

His appointment comes shortly after Giles Thorley, chief executive at the Development Bank of Wales, was named chairman of the company.

A former US Navy petty officer and Centrica energy director of nuclear and renewables, he is recognised as an exceptional leader which is widely regarded both in the nuclear and renewable power generation industries.

His work in renewables saw him leading major infrastructure project, including the design, development and commissioning phases of the £1.2 billion Lincs Wind Farm.

In nuclear, he was responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Wylfa nuclear power station on Anglesey with 1,000 staff and contractors.

He was also accountable for the safe delivery of the £1 billion site decommissioning programme at Trawsfynydd in the heart of Snowdonia National Park with the programme delivered safely, on time and within budget.
