A North East climate tech start-up is set to scale after securing investment from a regional female investment firm.
Amy Mooney is the founder of new business Mutha Cuva, a new subscription-based business aimed at solving the urgent clean energy challenge of heat pump servicing and maintenance.
Ms Mooney, a heating company director, devised the business to remove the hassle for homeowners while helping engineers work more efficiently. The firm’s platform offers automated service bookings, remote monitoring and AI-powered engineer support, and it is designed to work with any heat pump model
Last month, the entrepreneur launched a £250,000 pre-seed investment round to help scale the business, which is based in Newcastle.
Now she has secured “significant” investment from regional female investment firm, Lifted Ventures, with participation from nine angel investors in the Lifted Ventures network.
Ms Mooney said: “The Ƶ is at a pivotal moment in its transition away from fossil fuels. While heat pumps are essential to achieving net zero, the industry has overlooked a critical piece of the puzzle: aftercare. Mutha Cuva is here to make heat pump servicing simple, reliable and scalable, giving homeowners peace of mind and helping the Ƶ hit its climate targets.
“Securing this pre-seed investment is a huge milestone for us. It validates our vision and gives us the backing we need to accelerate growth and deliver real impact at scale. I’m particularly proud to have Lifted Ventures leading this round; their commitment and network of experienced angels bring not only capital but also the expertise and support we need as we scale.”
Jordan Dargue, co-founder of Lifted Ventures, added: “Amy and the Mutha Cuva team are solving a vital bottleneck in the Ƶ’s green transition. Their combination of industry expertise and tech-driven innovation makes them uniquely positioned to build the trusted servicing infrastructure heat pumps need to succeed at scale.
“We’re thrilled that a strong group of angel investors is backing Amy and Mutha Cuva, bringing not just funding but invaluable experience and networks to accelerate their growth.”
Helen Oldham, Co-Founder of Lifted Ventures, added: “At Lifted Ventures, we are committed to backing regional female entrepreneurs, who remain underrepresented in venture capital. Supporting Amy on this journey is exactly the kind of high-impact, founder-led innovation we set out to champion.”
The fresh investment will be used to expand operations in the North East and accelerate technology development, with a focus on creating a seamless, efficient experience for both homeowners and service engineers - before scaling nationally from 2026.
Lifted Ventures, co-founded by Ms Dargue and Ms Oldham, is an early-stage investment network focused on boosting funding access for female founders outside of London, while also advocating the advantages of investing in women.
It operates two angel investment networks, one built solely of women backing women, and also offers education, community-building and consultancy. As of September 2025 its has leveraged investment of over £1.1m into female-led businesses.
