A huge 83 per cent of managers in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ have said they are concerned about the health risks of returning to work, according to a survey by the Chartered Management Institute.

The membership organisation said it welcomed the “practical nature” of the Government’s latest workplace guidance, but warned managers would need “sufficient time” to put the necessary health and safety measures in place.

Government documents have set out a number of measures that need to be implemented in order for people to safely return to work, including workplace social distancing and other suggestions such as the staggering of start times

But 50 per cent of bosses surveyed by the CMI had previously said they would need two weeks or more to implement social distancing requirements properly.

“While the majority will remain at home, for those managers who must now return to the workplace, they will need sufficient time to get the necessary measures in place,” said Ann Francke, chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute.

Over half of º£½ÇÊÓƵ managers questioned by the CMI said they expected a negative financial impact as a result of following the new guidance.

Ms Francke said: “In the days ahead, we will work with our community to determine whether the guidance provides the clarity, support, and ultimately the confidence for those who must return to work.

“It’s vital that the guidance be as clear and practical as possible, and employee safety prioritised, even though workplace productivity will be impacted.”
