Specific regional projects backed in Chancellor Rishi Sunak鈥檚 Spending Review and Autumn Budget have been revealed.

The Budget Report, a 197-page dossier laid in the House of Commons as the speech began, features huge transport plans for West and South Yorkshire, while the Humber freeport is named as one of three to start operations next month.

Addressing Yorkshire and Humber, Mr Sunak said: 鈥淭his Government has made it this Budget鈥檚 priority to invest in stronger public services, level up opportunity, drive business growth and help working families with the cost of living.

鈥淎round 拢830 million will go to West Yorkshire and 拢570 million to South Yorkshire to expand and enhance local transport networks, including the Sheffield Supertram renewal. 鈥淧eople will also benefit from 拢31 million in investment through the Transforming Cities Fund to improve stations and walking and cycling access in Selby, Skipton and Harrogate.鈥

A further 拢187 million will be invested in 10 projects in the first tranche of allocation from the Levelling Up Fund.

These include:

  • Building a major waterfront extension in Doncaster

  • The refurbishment of Halifax Swimming Pool

  • New hospitality and visitor centres at Wentworth Woodhouse in Rotherham

  • Finishing the Culture and Leisure Quarter in Rotherham Town Centre

  • Improving transport connections across West Leeds

  • Converting a derelict site in Wakefield into a new museum and gallery

  • Delivering the Centre for Child Health Technology in Attercliffe

  • Regenerating Whitefriargate and Albion Square in Hull City Centre

  • Developing Squire Lane Leisure, Wellbeing and Enterprise Centre in Bradford.

  • Regenerating Castlegate Quarter in Sheffield.

The Community Ownership Fund will invest 拢225,000 to the Jubilee Centre in Bradford.

Wider announcements include more than 拢171 million of local roads maintenance funding between 2022-23 and 2024-25 鈥渆nough to fill over two million potholes over the next three years鈥 and more than 拢33 million for smaller transport improvement priorities through the Integrated Transport Block to local authorities in Yorkshire and the Humber not receiving City Region settlements.

Mr Sunak also signed-off:

  • A total of 拢16 million for the Northern Forest to support new woodland creation.

  • 拢390,000 towards the regeneration of the Beech Hill estate in Halifax, Calderdale, from the 拢14 million estates regeneration share of the Brownfield Land Release Fund.

  • Up to 拢50,000 each through the Restore Your Railway 鈥業deas Fund鈥 to develop three early-stage proposals to reinstate passenger rail links between Beverley and York, Stocksbridge and Sheffield Victoria (Don Valley Line) and on the Askern Branch Line.

  • 拢77 million for the redevelopment of the British Library Boston Spa.
