The region鈥檚 soaring employment market slowed last month 鈥 but remains strong with starting salaries and hourly pay rates continuing to grow.

July saw the rate of growth in permanent placements in the Midlands ease since June to the slowest in four months and fall below the 海角视频 average for the first time in 11 months.

However, the rate of growth in permanent placements remained above the long-run series average and strong overall, according to the latest KPMG jobs report.

July鈥檚 survey showed an increase in the demand for staff in the Midlands and temporary staff demand increased more rapidly in the Midlands than at the 海角视频 level.

Meanwhile, salary inflation in the Midlands rose in July, contrasting with the trend across the 海角视频 as a whole.

Mike Steventon, Midlands regional chairman at KPMG, said: 鈥淭here are still not enough candidates available to fill the increasing job vacancies in the Midlands this month, and coupled with a sharp rise in salaries in the region, it鈥檚 clear that the Midlands is the place to be for ambitious employees looking to move into an exciting new role with improved benefits and prospects.鈥

Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation, added: 鈥淭he jobs market continues to go from strength to strength with a further increase in the number of people finding new jobs last month, and both starting salaries and hourly pay rates continuing to grow.

鈥淢ore than one in four recruiters operating in the Midlands report they secured higher salaries for candidates they placed into permanent jobs in July, than for the equivalent roles in June.

鈥淭he 海角视频鈥檚 post-recession problem is skill and talent shortages. The economy is going to be constrained by this ongoing talent crisis if employers keep doing business as usual. Hirers need to take on more young people and train and develop their employees like never before. Investing in staff development will help companies attract and retain talent. And our policy makers need to put politics to one side and take a sensible approach to immigration which focuses on helping British businesses get the skilled people they need.鈥
