The big questions Welsh businesses still have as fire break looms on Friday

In just two days time Wales goes into a circuit breaker lockdown - a short, sharp version of the spring shutdown.

Welsh Government are taking the action to stem a rise in Covid cases but for the business community it is another major blow in the most difficult year in a generation.

They say this is being made worse by a lack of clarity on a number of key issues - with just over 48 hours before the two week 'fire break'.

Which businesses have to close?

Ben Cottam, Head of External Affairs at FSB, said: “There is still no published list of businesses that must close.

"We’ve been contacted by extremely worried business owners who do not know what they have to do on Friday evening, and there is no Welsh Government resource to signpost them towards.

"Businesses should have been using the time since Monday to plan for the two-week closure, but how can they plan for a scenario that they do not have knowledge of?"

They say this ranges from garden centres to garages who currently don't know where they stand.

Head of the Welsh Retail Consortium, Sara Jones, said: “It is astonishing that in just 48 hours before the fire breaker comes into effect, we are still none the wiser who is permitted to open or close their stores.
