Swansea Council has brought to market a prime riverside land site with it anticipating strong interest
Pipehouse Wharf is currently used as a vehicle services depot but that is set to change as the local authority plans to vacate it later this year. The local authority has said it intends to use the funds raised from the sale to help run its essential services.
The 4.3 acre site, situated between the southern end of Morfa Road and the River Tawe, is being marketed on behalf of the council by property advisory firm Knight Frank.
Council leader Rob Stewart said: "Pipehouse Wharf is a well-known landmark in a prominent location – I'm confident that its sale will attract significant interest.
"It's an attractive redevelopment opportunity at a riverside location. It's suitable for a range of alternative uses and I encourage interested parties to make their own inquiries with our agents."
The Pipehouse Wharf depot consists of 40,500 sq ft of industrial workshop units and a two-storey office structure.
There is existing planning consent for offices, research and development use, light industry, storage and distribution. However, new development would have to go through the planning process
Swansea Council has asked for offers to be submitted by noon, July 10.
The local authority has said it plans to move out of Pipehouse Wharf, and move to a new central depot facility which will be shared with the Dr Organics business in Swansea Enterprise Zone. Staff from the council are being consulted over the plan.
