A main contractor has been appointed to build a new tall apartment tower in Birmingham city centre.

Midgard will lead the construction of 'Edition Birmingham', a new residential scheme to be housed on site of the former Paradise Circus council car park in Cambridge Street.

The complex will have 581 one- and two-bedroom apartments for sale across two blocks - the 15-storey ‘Park Residence' and 46-storey 'Centenary Tower'.

The buildings will have 23,000 sq ft of amenity space including a swimming pool, gymnasium and yoga studio on the 44th and 45th floors.

There will also be a climbing wall, co-working spaces, private dining and external terraces with a cinema screen.

The project is expected to create 300 jobs, including 60 apprenticeships and work experience roles.

Work in recent months has been focussed on demolishing the multi-storey car park but now developers are expecting to break ground and begin construction of the new buildings later this year.

The contract is worth £145 million and phase one is due for completion in 2027. Edition Birmingham has already secured more than £85 million in revenue through off-plan apartment sales.

It will neighbour the new 49-storey Octagon apartment complex in Parade, which is nearing completion, and also University College Birmingham's plans for a new 35-storey halls of residence, off Brindley Drive.

Edition is being led by a partnership between Birmingham-based developer Court Collaboration and North West investor Select Property.

Midgard is already working on another of Court Collaboration's projects in the city -

Director Kevin Keegan said: "We are delighted to be entrusted with delivering another major project in Birmingham.

"Edition will be a major milestone in the redevelopment of the Birmingham skyline and we are excited to be involved in such a high-quality development."

Court Collaboration's chief executive Alex Neale said: "Edition Birmingham is visually stunning and will be built to the very highest standards of safety and quality.

"We're very pleased to have Midgard on board as our contractor and we can now look forward to breaking ground and bringing this world-class development to Birmingham.

"Edition offers residents the experience and amenities of a five-star hotel alongside the comfort of a luxury apartment."

Select Property's chief executive Adam Price added: "Birmingham offers a compelling investment opportunity.

"Rents in the city are rising at the strongest rate for any big city outside London, underpinned by strong fundamentals, such as ongoing investment in the centre and an expected 25 per cent population increase between now and 2040.

"Edition is hugely exciting and reflects our goal of bringing to market developments that are shaped by people and place. It will be at the heart of a transforming Birmingham."
