Handelsbanken strikes deal to relocate Birmingham branch

Swedish banking group will bring two teams currently based in city centre together into a single location

Handelsbanken has agreed a deal for office space at 103 Colmore Row in Birmingham

The Birmingham team at Swedish bank Handelsbanken is moving to a new home. The bank has agreed a deal to take space on the fourth floor of 103 Colmore Row on a ten-year lease.

The move comes after Handelsbanken's Temple Row and Newhall Street branches joined forces. The bank came to the º£½ÇÊÓƵ in 1982, opening its first branch in London, and has had an operation in Birmingham for 30 years.

Branch manager Stephen Breen said: "Our new branch offers modern spaces and great facilities for both our customers and employees while remaining in the heart of Birmingham. We look forward now to welcoming customers to our new branch."

103 Colmore Row is 26 storeys and was developed by joint venture partnership Sterling Property and Tristan Capital.

It has more than 220,000 sq ft of grade A office space along with the Orelle restaurant and bar on the 24th floor and a ground-floor café.

Handelsbanken is the latest professional services firm to move to the building, joining tenants such as Browne Jacobson, Colliers, Grant Thornton and Shoosmiths and is now 86 per cent either let or under offer.

Sterling's managing director James Howarth said: "Handelsbanken is an established name in the banking sector, with a long history in Birmingham.
