BT is opening a huge new multi-million pound office in Bristol city centre that will house more than 2,000 staff.

Construction of the 13-storey waterfront development has already started, with the work due to be completed next year.

BT, which employs more than 7,000 people in the South West, said it was planning to move into the building - called the Assembly Bristol - in 2022.

The office is part of the growing Bristol Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone next to Temple Meads Station.

The state-of-the-art property will have large roof terraces on the upper floors, more than 250 cycle spaces and shower and changing facilities for staff.

BT said the development is part of a plan to increase its presence “significantly” in the city in the coming years.

Ahead of the move to the new building, BT has leased out a temporary office in Bristol. However, the majority of BT staff are currently working from home due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the company said.

Paul Coles, BT Group’s English regions director said it was a “huge boost” for the city.
