URocked app will let baristas, builders, beauticians and buskers get tips straight to their  accounts

App that lets you tip waiters and cabbies wherever you are in the world hits £100k crowdfunding target on day one

URocked has been designed to shake up tipping culture

An app that lets you tip a cabbie, waiter or barman anywhere you are in the world has raised more than £100,000 through a crowdfunding campaign.

URocked has been designed to shake up tipping culture to help make sure the person the tip is aimed at gets the money in a transparent way.

The business estimates that some £5.2 billion is given in tips in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ each year.

And the service means users can make sure it is not just people working in the hospitality and beauty sectors who get extra payment – but anyone from delivery drivers to warehouse workers to kitchen staff and buskers.

A tip can be sent via the app within 10 seconds, with the money – minus a 49p transaction fee of which 20p goes to º£½ÇÊÓƵ food poverty charity The Trussell Trust – going straight to the intended recipient.

According to the Crowdcube funding page the business, which is registered in Leicester, is valued at £4.6 million with 84 investors taking a stake on the first day. The campaign runs for 30 days.

The founders say that when it launches, the app will allow workers across all industries to receive cashless gratuities straight into their accounts as a thank you for doing a great job from their customers.

Tippers just have to scan a QR code and enter the amount.
