Two of the region's prominent tech support organisations have come together to deliver new assistance to North East-based founders.
Sunderland Software City and Ignite have partnered having secured Government backing to deliver a programme that aims to grow the number of tech start-ups in the region. The two bodies are being supported by Barclays Eagle Labs Ecosystem Partnership Programme to offer tailored one-to-one sessions with tech business advisers and provide funding advice including from entrepreneurs who have successfully raised capital.
As part of the package, Ignite will offer a new eight-week virtual 'Start-up Taster Course' starting this month with applications now open. Barclays funding will also be used to open up more spaces to regional founders on Ignite's flagship accelerator and pre-accelerator programmes, funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority.

David Dunn, CEO at Sunderland Software City and Dynamo, said: "It is no great surprise to say that we desperately need more access to funding for tech companies in the North East. People have great ideas, but often have trouble securing funding to bring their idea to life to take it to the next stage of growth. We’re delighted to be working with Barclays so we can begin to bridge the gap between securing funding and driving growth."
Jo York, CEO of Ignite, said: "Ever since I took on this role, I've been looking for ways Ignite can help more founders even earlier on their start-up journeys. So I'm really excited that Barclays has enabled us to open up more spaces for founders across the North East on our existing programmes, and roll out our brand-new Launch Programme.
The new 8-week Launch Programme is designed for very early-stage founders who have an idea for a digital/tech business, but aren't yet full-time on their product. It’s an idea we’ve had for a long time as we’ve spoken to many individuals who are passionate about their ideas but aren’t sure yet if it’s worth pursuing and are missing out on support.
