A US tech firm has expanded its international reach by buying a Birmingham-based company.

HubStar, which is headquartered in Massachusetts and has bases in London and Sydney, has bought out Spica Technologies.

The two firms specialise in software products aimed at making workplaces more efficient, spanning fields such as controlling access and check ins in lobby areas.

They work with clients such as the NHS, Mitsubishi, Nike, Aviva and EY.

HubStar said the undisclosed deal represented a major milestone in its mission to accelerate the world's transition to smarter ways of working.

Executive chairman Steve Vatidis said: "Today's workplace leaders are tasked with balancing three imperatives: reducing costs, creating exceptional employee experiences and advancing sustainability goals.

"This acquisition addresses all three challenges head-on.
