Two South West start-ups have been named among some of the best new tech companies in the ������Ƶ.

Exeter-based HR-tech firm Role Mapper Technologies and Bristol environmental start-up Spherics Technology have received accolades from industry experts in Tech Nation’s ‘rising stars’ competition.

Role Mapper Technologies was named as the national winner for the South West in a list of 10 early-stage companies deemed as being at the forefront of technology across the ������Ƶ.

Founded by Sara Hill in 2019, the platform’s software allows companies to streamline administration surrounding recruitment and design more inclusive job descriptions to attract a more diverse range of talent.

Ms Hill was among the most diverse group of winners ever in the ������Ƶ’s only national tech scale-up competition, with half of the successful companies started by women. She said she was “delighted” with the accolade.

Ms Hill said: “It’s great to be recognised for everything the team has managed to achieve in such a short space of time.

“We are grateful for the opportunity Tech Nation has provided us to showcase how the Role Mapper is transforming workplaces, one job description at a time.”

Exeter was recently identified by Tech Nation alongside Belfast and Dundee as the three cities likely to see high growth in tech innovation this year due to their high proportion of seed stage companies.

Elsewhere, green-tech firm Spherics was crowned the winner of a national ‘net zero’ award category for the work it has done in helping small-and-middle-sized businesses to manage their environmental impact.

The firm's cloud-based system integrates with established software packages, and tracks and visualises a company’s carbon footprint in real-time.

George Sandilands, who founded Spherics alongside Mike Chatziapostolou and Ciaran Wood, said “We are delighted to have won this prestigious award that recognises the best tech start-ups across the country.

Mr Sandilands added: “As the impact of companies on the environment continues to be high on the national agenda, it is only a matter of time before smaller businesses face carbon tax and regulation.

“By adopting climate tools now companies can demonstrate their environmental impact to prospective customers and clients.”

Bristol company Cloud8, Falmouth-based DataDuoploy and Bowimi in Bath were listed as South West winners at the regional stage of the competition in December.

Previous winners in Tech Nation’s Rising Stars competition have gone on to attract average investments of more than £350,000 and grow their workforce by 70%.

After it received the honour, Cornish video streaming company Codices was listed under the World Economic Forum’s top 10 tech trends to watch.

Last August it also attracted £250,000 in equity investment from the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Investment Fund (CIOSIF), as part of a larger £650,000 funding round, which included investment from existing and new private investors.
