Workers local to the site of a £350 million power station build in North Lincolnshire are to be given priority after Siemens partnered with º£½ÇÊÓƵ technical recruitment firm NRL on Keadby Two.

Set to become the cleanest and most efficient gas-fired power station in Europe, those behind the scheme are keen to ensure a legacy from the works, which have already seen borough contractors Britcon and CLS engaged.

In total, around 700 roles will be created during construction.

NRL, a specialist in energy and heavy industry, will be responsible for engaging with the local community and its existing º£½ÇÊÓƵ-based candidates to manage recruitment of workers needed for the project, including those working to the National Agreement of the Engineering Construction Industry (NAECI) standards.

All subcontractors working for the project will be obliged to use NRL resources when selecting staff. In addition, any candidates who wish to be considered for work at Keadby Two will need to .

To the end of May 2019, more than 70 per cent of the workers on site were from the º£½ÇÊÓƵ. The project wants to maintain a strong º£½ÇÊÓƵ workforce to ensure skills and economic benefit are delivered by the project to the community it is based in.

NRL will be responsible for creating a detailed labour pool with all prospective candidates required to meet competency requirements. Successful applicants will have to undertake a face-to-face interview prior to being appointed to work on site.

Mike Fox, senior project manager for Keadby Two with Siemens Gas and Power, the infrastructure delivery partner appointed by owner SSE, said: “We’re delighted to be working with an organisation with an excellent track record in finding the skilled workers needed for energy construction projects. A jobs fair will take place over the summer where people can register their interest in working on the project and find out more about the roles due to come up in the next round of recruitment. We hope this will help us to find people from the local and surrounding areas with the skills and competence needed to build the power station.”
