A North East IT security consultancy has been picked by the police to become the new system provider for a cyber threat detection service.
Durham-based Waterstons provides technology-based solutions to help global businesses improve their performance, having been launched in 1994 by Sally and Mike Waterston. The firm - which also has bases in the London, Glasgow and Sydney, Australia - has now been awarded the contract to become the new system provider for Police CyberAlarm.
The National Cybercrime Team selected Waterstons following a competitive commercial tender process. Police CyberAlarm is a Home Office funded cyber threat detection service, offered free of charge to organisations across the Ƶ.
Waterstons, a National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) approved Certified Cyber Consultancy, has a track record in supporting organisations to safeguard their critical data, protect their reputations, and build resilience. Its provides its services to everything from SMEs to large enterprises.
Businesses and organisations face thousands of cyberattacks every day, yet Police CyberAlarm works alongside existing network security devices to monitor activity, identify threats, and provide actionable intelligence.
Head of the NPCC National Cybercrime Team, Detective Chief Superintendent Andrew Gould said: “This is an exciting new partnership for Police CyberAlarm as we continue to evolve and enhance the service for our members. Waterstons is a well-known and trusted organisation across law enforcement, and we look forward to working with their highly experienced team.”
The transition from the current technology partner, Pervade, will take place over the coming months.

Police CyberAlarm is delivered by a team of police officers and staff in partnership with its technology provider.
