Octopus Hydrogen and Octopus Renewables building hydrogen charging point for MIRA Technology Park

New charging site will support fast growing cluster of automotive and mobility technology businesses

How the hydrogen charging point for MIRA Technology Park could look

Octopus Hydrogen and Octopus Renewables are building a green refuelling forecourt providing hydrogen and EV charging at the MIRA Technology Park in West Leicestershire.

The new charging site will support the fast growing cluster of automotive and mobility technology businesses based at the industrial complex just off the A5.

Octopus’ solution brings together the group’s hydrogen business focused on providing green hydrogen-as-a-service to accelerate adoption alongside Octopus Renewables.

They will supply power from a purpose-built 7MW ground-mounted solar array located alongside the forecourt at the technology park.

The MIRA site is home to 40 global leaders in zero-carbon transport development, with a growing number focused on fuel cell technology, and others seeking to incorporate green hydrogen into the power trains that they are working on and with.

It is hoped on-site green hydrogen will catalyse the momentum of the cluster that has recently seen new tenancies announced from companies including REE and Viritech – with the latter focused on the development of hydrogen technologies.

The forecourt will supply businesses with enough green hydrogen to support the equivalent of 60 cars’ worth of fuel per day.

High-power EV chargers delivering up to 300kW will also be installed to build on the existing network of more than 70 charging points already on site at MIRA Technology Park.
