Irish technology firm Version 1 is to create around 200 new technology jobs when it sets up a base in Newcastle.

The announcement from the Dublin firm - which provides a wide range of IT services and employs around 2,000 people around the world - in the latest of a string of inward investment announcements for the city.

The company’s move has been backed with £1m from the North of Tyne Combined Authority and welcomed by political leaders in the North east, who said it showed the increasing global confidence in the city from investors.

It follows a similar announcement last month from American technology company Arctic Wolf, along with inward investment from other overseas firms last year.

North of Tyne mayor Jamie Driscoll said: “This is yet another fantastic company moving to the region.

“When I met with Version 1, I was impressed by their commitment to their people. They join our growing tech and digital sector, providing good jobs that will sustain people throughout their career. Along with Invest Newcastle, we are making a difference.”

City council leader Nick Forbes said: “This is just the latest jobs announcement for the city which is obviously great news as we seek to quickly recover from the pandemic. We are becoming the natural home for digital and tech companies, and I’m delighted to welcome Version 1 to Newcastle.
