New Birmingham tech hub planned in £1m support programme

TechWM unveils plans for new hub at Innovation Birmingham as part of wide-ranging clutch of initiatives for start-ups

A new hub to support start-up and growing tech businesses is set to open on Innovation Birmingham campus next year

A new hub is set to open in Birmingham aimed at increasing collaboration and support for fledgling tech businesses.

The facility will launch in the iCentrum building on the Innovation Birmingham campus early next year and will strive to foster cross-network support and give tech professionals a base from which to network.

It is one of several new initiatives which are being launched by TechWM after it secured £1 million in new funding to support the region's tech sector over the next year.

Other planned projects include an acceleration programme aimed at helping tech start-ups grow, an online information portal featuring news, events and opportunities and an ecosystem platform which will collate all of the support and services available.

There will also be a number of special interest groups to educate businesses about AI and future technologies and a new digital and tech strategy for the West Midlands implemented by the recently announced Tech & Digital Advisory Board.

TechWM, previously known as Birmingham Tech, was founded in 2019 and is a not-for-profit group which aims to raise the profile of the West Midlands' tech sector and help local businesses grow.

It also organises the annual Birmingham Tech Week festival which starts today and has garnered new capital from patrons, the private sector and funding platforms to support these newly announced initiatives.
