A Sheffield start-up is hoping to bring electric vehicle charging to the masses after winning funding from the Government.

Mina is a company dedicated to creating technology that will make charging electric vehicles simpler and more widespread.

The company is working to develop a new system that will make charging vehicles radically simpler for those living in apartment blocks.

In total Mina has received £77,834 in funding from the Government's Catalysing Green Innovation programme to launch a feasibility study into its project.

The money will be used to create a prototype that will allow people who live in flats to rent a charging point for their parking space on demand.

Currently, there are nine million people living in flats in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ but there are a number of problems that prevent them from accessing charging stations. One of the main issues is that they do not own their own parking space so landlords are often the ones paying for the electricity usage.

At the moment it is still difficult to pass this cost onto the car owner.

Mina's solution would see residents pay a fixed monthly fee for a chargepoint for their parking space, which would include all of the energy needed to charge their vehicle. It would also provide them with energy which is cheaper than charging stations in the public infrastructure.
