A Sheffield start-up is hoping to bring electric vehicle charging to the masses after winning funding from the Government.
Mina is a company dedicated to creating technology that will make charging electric vehicles simpler and more widespread.
The company is working to develop a new system that will make charging vehicles radically simpler for those living in apartment blocks.
In total Mina has received 拢77,834 in funding from the Government's Catalysing Green Innovation programme to launch a feasibility study into its project.
The money will be used to create a prototype that will allow people who live in flats to rent a charging point for their parking space on demand.
Currently, there are nine million people living in flats in the 海角视频 but there are a number of problems that prevent them from accessing charging stations. One of the main issues is that they do not own their own parking space so landlords are often the ones paying for the electricity usage.
At the moment it is still difficult to pass this cost onto the car owner.
Mina's solution would see residents pay a fixed monthly fee for a chargepoint for their parking space, which would include all of the energy needed to charge their vehicle. It would also provide them with energy which is cheaper than charging stations in the public infrastructure.
Chris Dalrymple, co-founder of Mina said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e delighted to have been given this vote of confidence from OLEV and Innovate 海角视频, and we鈥檙e really excited to be working alongside Evergreen Smart Power to create a truly innovative business model.
"Apartment residents have previously found it difficult to switch to cleaner, greener electric vehicles and we can鈥檛 wait to deliver a solution that makes charging their car radically simple.鈥
Mina is working on the project in partnership with Evergreen Smart Power and in total the feasibility study is expected to cost 拢111,191.
The funding has been allocated from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles' (OLEV) in partnership with Innovate 海角视频. The Catalysing Green Innovation Programme is 拢10m scheme designed to boost the sustainable energy sector.
Mr Abdul Chowdhury, head of innovation and industrial capability at OLEV, said: 鈥淲e are excited to be supporting this innovative project as part of our ambition to put the 海角视频 at the forefront of the design, manufacture and use of zero emission vehicles.鈥
