London Tech Week: Bristol among only cities outside capital with tech 'unicorns'

Bristol is among six º£½ÇÊÓÆµ cities outside London which are now home to at least two tech 'unicorns'.

Machine intelligence company Graphcore and energy supplier Ovo are both based in the city.

The º£½ÇÊÓÆµ has created more tech unicorns - firms valued at more than $1billion (£784 million) - than any other country except for the US and China, according to new data compiled by Tech Nation and Dealroom.

Since 2012 the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ has produced as many unicorns as Israel, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden combined and the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ tech sector has produced one unicorn firm each month over the past year.

The º£½ÇÊÓÆµ has produced 13 firms valued at more than $1billion over the past year, taking its overall total to 72.

The other cities with at least two tech unicorns are Cambridge, Oxford, Manchester , Leeds and Edinburgh.
