It launched Grimsby United, now LinkedIn is getting behind Grimsby Town and fans who are looking for work.
Having chosen the town for a pilot programme to test the power of connections in a transforming area, which has seen case studies taken to the cinema screen, the world’s largest professional network is now making its debut in football sponosrship.
The initiative has been launched to help jobseekers to find work, with activity starting this coming weekend.
It involves the opening of The LinkedIn Lounge – a permanent match day fixture throughout the season, where fans will be able to see current vacancies in the area, along with details of how to apply.
LinkedIn will take on what was the former Kingswood Lounge, across the Young’s Stand’s first floor from McMenemy’s, as it builds on the campaign that picked out the area because of the emerging Greater Grimsby Town Deal.
Saturday’s Macclesfield Town match will also see the first of regular ‘jobs takeovers’ where live job roles will also be served to match-goers in match day programmes, at food vendors and even in toilets.
Next week the ground will also be home to LinkedIn’s temporary pop-up pub ‘The Linked Inn’ – where fans and Grimsby residents alike can score themselves a job with an after-work drink.

It takes place between 5pm and 8pm on Tuesday, September 24 – 24 hours before the Mariners’ glamour cup tie with Chelsea.
Guests will be able to meet with recruiting businesses in the area, as well as LinkedIn career experts who will be on hand to advise on everything from setting up a LinkedIn profile to growing their professional community.
Grimsby Town manager, Michael Jolley said: “The club has always supported the local community and vice versa. With LinkedIn’s sponsorship we can use the club ground as a platform to highlight the job opportunities available in the area.”
Free tickets to home game fixtures across the season will also be made available to The Linked Inn attendees, where they will be able to speak with club sponsors, DFDS and Associated British Ports, as well as Docks Beers, Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust, and DeeBee Wholesale about the jobs they have on offer.
The activity is part of a one-year agreement with the club.
Darain Faraz, head of brand at LinkedIn said: “We believe that when people come together, we create opportunity and change lives for the better. There are few sports which unite a community quite like football, especially in Grimsby where the club is the heart of the town.
“We hope this sponsorship demonstrates the power of community in securing job opportunities.”
