Liverpool is 'leading Europe' in next-generation life science manufacturing jobs

Liverpool has been praised for its role in leading Europe in the field of next-generation life science manufacturing.

The city's thriving science scene has been highlighted by a number of global experts, who say the sector will double in high-quality jobs over the next five years, and that Liverpool, including Speke, are "key areas" for the growth.

It came as the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Bioindustry Association held its major national industry conference at St George's Hall last week.

Steve Bates, CEO of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Bioindustry Association, said: “Liverpool is known around the globe for its world class football, but it’s less well known in the city that it’s also a world class location for innovative life science manufacturing.

"This is an industry set to double in jobs in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ in the next five years and will need skilled workers.

"Global experts are meeting to discuss how to make the medicines of the future - and the region is well set to benefit from the growth of this º£½ÇÊÓƵ innovation ecosystem success story.”

According to Mr Bates, Liverpool is a global hub for Research and Development in infectious disease, biomanufacturing, precision medicine and digital health and IT.

The region's healthcare sector employs over 125,000 people, and there are more specialist hospitals and health centres than any other city outside of London.
