A North East company that is one of the leading providers of technology to GP surgeries around the country has been acquired.

Clarity Informatics was founded in 2000 as a spin-out from Newcastle University. Now it employs more than 50 people from its base in Wallsend, North Tyneside, with its software used by more than 80% of GPs in england.

The company provides a range of back office services for healthcare organisations, including appraisal software, compliance technology, and diagnostics and treatment guidance.

It has been acquired by fast-growing software group Agilio Software, which is based in Devon.

The new owners say they plan to invest in Clarity to aid its growth at a regional and national level, creating new jobs in the North East.

Clarity Informatics chief executive Tim Sewart said: “From the outset, Clarity’s ambition has always been to innovate and grow the business to be one of the leading providers in the industry.

“We see this as the next step in our development and we are incredibly excited to embark on this new chapter with Agilio Software.”

Agilio is backed by the equity group August Equity and has become the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s largest provider of back office, compliance and workforce solutions in the primary care and dental markets. The acquisition of Clarity is its fifth acquisition in 18 months.
