Firm linked to the sports car is in administration, but the man behind the project says it still has a future

The entrepreneur behind Britain’s next two-seater supercar says the project is still on despite one of his businesses going under with the loss of 45 jobs.

Graham Mulholland said he is talking to potential partners to get the Legend 480 sports car off the drawing board – and planning to move the operation to either Leicestershire or Nottinghamshire.

He spoke a month after having to make 45 redundancies at his Derby engineering business Mulholland Composites, which had been part of the plans.

He has blamed the closure of the company – which made carbon composite components for Formula One teams and the aerospace and defence sectors – on landlords Derby City Council, following a dispute over the lease of the factory.

The council said it had done its best to ensure the building had remained occupied.

Despite the loss of the business and the redundancies, Mr Mulholland said the plans for the lightweight, carbon fibre, 6.2 litre V8 car were still on.

The 480 in the name refers to the car’s brake horsepower, and he said an electric version was also being considered, if he can find the right platform to run it.

He said he was talking to contacts in the automotive industry and looking at a potential new home for it near either Donington Park, in Leicestershire, or Beeston in Notts.
