IT firm set to move into £7.6m Oceansgate marine Enterprise Zone

ESL Group is involved in counter terrorism defence work and will expand into second phase of waterfront business hub

How Phase 2 of Oceansgate in Plymouth will look

An IT company involved in counter terrorism work will become the first firm to relocate into the second phase of Plymouth’s £7.6million Oceansgate development.

ESL Group is moving its Space and Defence Solutions (SDS) division to a new industrial unit at . Other divisions of the ESL Group will remain in their headquarters at Plymouth Science Park.

ESL SDS produces solutions for the defence, security and maritime industries and is developing a new product called EMprotect, which provides an emergency response and “counter-terrorism functionality”.

Formed in 1993, the ESL Group provides IT solutions and services and has delivered numerous global projects and systems. It is organised into business units focusing on three core competencies: smart, cloud and financial solutions.

It will become the first tenant for the second phase of Plymouth City Council’s Oceansgate development, which is on course to be completed in December.

Russ Cole, ESL Group chairman, said: “I am delighted to be taking a unit at Oceansgate which will be used by our Space and Defence Solutions division. From our HQ at Plymouth Science Park we are already establishing key relationships within the local defence sector and anticipate being further involved in the proposed Phase 3 innovation centre.”

Oceansgate is the anchor project for the Plymouth and South West Peninsula City Deal, a pioneering programme covering Cornwall, Devon, Plymouth, Torbay and Somerset designed to bring significant and long-lasting economic growth to the far south west, creating over 9,000 jobs over 15 years.

Oceansgate, covering 35 hectares, has transformed disused Ministry of Defence land into a thriving hub for marine and maritime businesses.
