A Devon marine technology company has expanded both its premises and headcount.

Totnes-based Valeport, which employs more than 100 people in its current premises on St Peter's Quay, has acquired the adjacent building, the former Devon & Cornwall Housing offices.

The acquisition will allow the company to increase its manufacturing and product service capacity as global demand for its precision sensors and probes have increased by 22%. Bosses at the manufacturer said new staff and apprentices have been taken on in the firm's machine shop, product assembly, R&D and service departments.

Valeport, which reported a turnover of over £12.3m currently has six apprentices in training with a further ten graduated apprentices fully employed by the firm.

The former Devon & Cornwall Housing offices, now named Radcliffe House, were acquired pre-pandemic but have now been refurbished by Valeport to house the firm’s Sales, Marketing, R&D, HR and Finance departments, creating space for Valeport to expand and refurbish the production facilities in its existing Sandquay Building.

The expansion into Radcliffe House means Valeport’s headquarters in Totnes span over 44,000ft 2 across three waterfront buildings.

Matt Quartley, managing director, Valeport Group said: “Acquiring Radcliffe House is significant for us and opens up another exciting chapter in Valeport’s fifty plus year history. The increase in our manufacturing capacity and new staff to support our expansion plans, marks the beginning of our next period of growth.
